Metal Braces
Modern braces are smaller and less noticeable than the notorious "metal-mouth" braces than many adults remember from their childhood. Metal or silver are the most commonly used braces in Orthodontic treatments. The braces, or bands, are bonded directly to the tooth surface to hold the connecting arch wires. It’s these wires which provide the method for the Orthodontist to move your teeth. Metal or elastic ties are used to hold the wires in place. If you are sensitive to metal, nickel-free brackets are available. Elastic ties come in a variety of colors, so you can choose different colors at every appointment. Also, new heat-activated archwires use your body’s heat to help teeth move more quickly and less painfully than in the past. |

Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces (also known as clear braces) are a cosmetic alternative to traditional metal braces. Many adults choose this type of bracket as they are not very noticeable at a distance or in photos as they minimize the visibility of the braces on the teeth. Ceramic braces also blend well with most teeth, and some Orthodontists even use tooth-colored wires to be even less noticeable.

The trays are changed approximately every two weeks until the treatment is complete. Not every patient is a candidate for Invisalign, and the success of using the Invisalign product is based on a patient’s commitment to wear the trays all the time and only remove them for eating and brushing. They will not work for serious dental problems, are only available for teens and adults and can be easily lost and costly to replace.

Damon braces are self-ligating appliances that are fitted in the same way as traditional metal braces, but they eliminate the need for metal or elastic “ties”. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move freely, quickly and comfortably. This makes them better looking and able to provide strong results in a shorter time. Given how they work and fit in the mouth, they can put less pressure on the teeth, resulting in less pain, but they can also be irritating to wear for the first few days until the patient get used to them.

Incognito Braces can cost a little more than traditional braces as they are cost from gold rather than stainless steel and can take longer to install.
